For this week, I put together an entire meal. I combined my learning from the past few weeks, what I already knew, and tried to make a good birthday dinner. I haven't been focusing on a first course because I've been planning to do a garden salad with olive oil, lemon juice, salt and pepper, and a dash of balsamic vinegar for a home made dressing. The salad itself is a spring mix with cucumbers, red bell pepper, carrots, and of course avocado. This week I made the salad and for a main course I made basic baked chicken breast with spices, and roasted potatoes. Both the chicken and the potatoes were cooked with olive oil, salt, pepper, oregano, and garlic powder.
My intent with cooking them both with the same spices, in addition to knowing from experience that both of these dishes go well with the flavor combinations, was to tie together the flavors. For a dessert, my friend said that she loved the cupcakes from week 3, so I made another batch of those.
The dinner worked well together, but I completely forgot to pick up Izze soda to go with it. When I cook dinner for my friend's birthday, I will need to make sure I remember this last piece! Over all, the dinner worked very well and I was happy with it.
