Student Engagement 8th
This article is filled with student suggestions on what they find engaging during class. The responses are grouped into categories, and the categories are essentially all of the things that are removed from most classrooms today. What we've been learning in technology class this year can help us to engage students by mixing it up, working with peers, connecting with the real world, and using technology. Looking at my practice, I incorporate a few of these, but I need to add in a lot more. Right now my focus is on connecting to the real world, bringing in visuals, working with peers, and mixing it up. The unit we're working on is statistics, so the real world applications are much more interesting than looking at normal data. We're trying a common core unit so collaboration and group work is a key element to this unit. The visuals are something I've been focusing on all year because I think they're incredibly important to understanding mathematics, and mixing it up is something that I'm working on because we're starting a new unit. Since I don't have any resources, I'm trying to find as many versatile ways to help students learn as possible.
